WHAT'S IN THIS CLASS
 
MC 19: Musical Prosody: Phrasing & Articulation of 8th Notes, Sing Along with Bird & Slap, Snap or Tap - Part II

1. Singing.
  
A) Students Sing Prez’ Solo on “Lady Be Good” or another solo of their choice.
   
B) We listen to Bird’s “Yardbird Suite” and Sing the Head. Students sing Bird’s solo. Also have some students sing WT, Diminished and Harmonic and Melodic Minor Scales.

2. Rhythm Study.
 
A) Students Clap or Tap Rhythms of Melody of “Yardbird Suite” While singing melody then without singing melody.
 
B) Students Tap or Snap “Pockets.”
 
a) Along with Recording of “Yardbird Suite”

3. Eighth Note Articulation and Phrasing.
 
A) Demonstration of Chromatic Scale Using 8th Notes
 
a) Bob talks about “Musical Prosody” Demonstrates “Flat” playing of 8th notes then shows how to “give them Life.”
  
b) We  hear how this applies to Bird’s “Yardbird Suite” solo as we study the “Prosody” therein with “close up” on the Bridge. We briefly sum other tunes that go to III Minor on Bridge: Getting Sentimental Over You, If I Had You, Oh You Crazy Moon, Without a Song (second half).
  
c) We apply this Articulation to a “Scale Permutation."

4. The House of Harmony.
    
A) Continuing to Build the “Duplex.”
     
B) Showing How “Yardbird Suite” Works within the “House” ( Have Isaac Point to Changes as if “following the Bouncing Ball”.)

 5. Bob Shows Example of Bird’s “Relaxin’ at Camarillo" solo as use of “Back Door Turnaround" on  opening two Bars of the Blues. 
 
*This also continues our Example of “Prosody in the Phrasing.” Bob demonstrates his use of this concept then the students have their chance to try.
